There has been great progress on the Whakapakari te Kāinga building project at Urenui Pā this week, with several key developments underway that continue to transform the site.
New concrete paths have been laid behind Titohea, improving accessibility between the upper and lower areas of the marae which will make it easier for whānau to move around. These paths will connect to the concrete pathways already laid up towards the Urupā. In Te Aroha, beautiful new aluminium windows and doors featuring a unique pattern designed by Rangi Kipa have been installed, adding both function and cultural artistry to the whare.
Behind the mattress shed, new drainage is being installed to improve infrastructure, while the Betts & Bishop team is currently reshaping the whenua, both where the old water tank once stood and in front of Te Aroha, in preparation for upcoming landscaping and planting. These landscaping works are helping shape a more welcoming and connected environment for future gatherings.
Further exterior cladding work has continued on Te Aroha, adding to the structure’s strength and aesthetic finish. Inside, painting has begun in the link space, signaling that interior work is also progressing steadily.
