Whakapakari te Kāinga project Update

16 June 2025

Progress continues steadily at Urenui Pā as part of the Whakapakari te Kāinga project, with significant developments achieved throughout May and June. The hard landscaping phase is now well underway, with the skilled team from Betts & Bishop making great strides in shaping the exterior environment. Their mahi has included the creation of new pathways throughout the site, careful ground contouring, drainage solutions, and the commencement of groundwork for the front carpark area. These enhancements are designed to improve accessibility and flow throughout the pā while respecting the natural whenua.

Inside Te Aroha, the Profound team is making excellent progress with the internal fit-out. With the external scaffolding now removed, the beautiful façade of the building is fully visible—an exciting visual milestone for all involved. However, in the spirit of preserving the moment for whānau, no internal images will be released. This decision is grounded in our desire to honour the collective anticipation and create a special experience for uri when the doors finally open. While the official opening date is still being finalised—taking into consideration weather conditions, planting schedules, and programme coordination—we acknowledge and appreciate the patience and understanding of our whānau. The wait will be well worth it. Each step forward brings us closer to a place of shared pride and renewed connection. As these developments continue, the Whakapakari te Kainga project brings Urenui Pā closer to completion, creating a space that reflects both tradition and modern resilience.
