There are now two confirmed cases of bird flu in Aotearoa. Communications from MPI and DOC provide good detail on these cases and there are frequent updates and clear instruction for public on both websites. Please click on the links below for more information;

There has been no clear instruction or protocol released in regards to wild native bird monitoring from either group. At this stage, we are continuing with our kororā monitoring program as normal following advice from our lead scientist. We have halted Oi monitoring at this stage after discussion with TRC due to increased risk when reaching into burrows. Clear protocols have been established around ensuring all clothing has been washed, boots cleaned and hands sanitised between sites for all our bird monitoring and activities. We do a lot of bird mahi in our taiao space so it is important we get this right. Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Mutunga are following updates closely
