Progress continues steadily on the internal fit-out of Te Aroha, with the installation of gib board now well underway and painting beginning across key interior surfaces. These works are giving the wharenui real form and warmth as it takes shape from the inside out. While we await the arrival of some specialist internal materials — including finishing trims and fittings — the team is preparing spaces so that once everything is on site, installation can move ahead smoothly. At this stage, we’re unable to share any images of the whare interior until after the formal opening, out of respect for tikanga and the significance of this space for our whānau.
Externally, there’s been ongoing effort across the pā with landscape shaping and whenua contouring continuing around Te Aroha, Titohea, and the central courtyard areas. The focus has been on improving water flow, access paths, and preparing for native planting. However, the recent run of wet winter weather has made this work especially challenging — turning the whenua into mud in parts and slowing machinery access. Despite the conditions, the commitment of our contractors and whānau remains unwavering, and we’re grateful for the continued support as we move closer to realising a revitalised kāinga for all.
