Whakapakari te Kāinga Project Update – 18 December 2025

Tēnā koutou e te whānau,

The opening date for the Pā is likely to occur during the first quarter of 2026. We hope to provide an update at the AGM on 7 February 2026 at the Urenui Community Centre. At this time, clearing and packing is underway as the construction works will be on hold during the Christmas and New Year break. Work will resume on site from 5 January 2026.

Inside the Pā, progress is on track. Te Aroha is still on track with exterior work and painting to follow once the cedar panels arrive for the mahau. The Wānanga Room is on track, with the painting complete and the progress for the Mahau continues with staining and cedar installation. Our wharekai Titohea continues with cladding and painting, alongside external decking and the roof structures. The timelines for the Waharoa will be confirmed early in the new year.

Despite minor delays and the complexity of coordinating multiple trades, the commitment of our team and whānau remains strong. The designs for the Waharoa on the marae ātea have been completed, marking a key milestone in the project. The next step prior to the holiday period will be installing the timber, which will provide the strength and character needed for this important space. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create spaces that reflect the aspirations of our Pā and our whānau.

The Urenui Pā Trustees would like to remind whānau that the Pā is still a construction site and is a restricted area and out of bounds for all except construction workers and their invitees. These areas are Te Aroha, Mahi Tamariki, Wānanga Room, Titohea including all earthworks from Te Aroha down to the end of the driveway.
