Oi Nesting Season

We have begun monitoring our Oi kainga site at Paparoa for this season.  Our initial sweep of the burrows shows an increase of located active burrows from last year.  This data is collected from two properties that join together from Paparoa reef south to Reads property (about 1km stretch of coast).  There are Oi in pockets nesting all the way along our coast, we encourage as many landowners to carry out pest control along the coast as we can.

We will recheck these burrows two more times.  Once to check chick hatching success, then a second time once the chicks are bigger with the aim of banding the ones we can reach.  This mahi is undertaken with the support and guidance of Taranaki Regional Council.
