We are pleased to have been able to engage Ian & Riaki Ruru again this year to update our existing Urenui & Mimitangiatua mauri compass reports and create a new report for monitoring our marine environment. These reports provide an overall assessment of each catchment including dashboards (graphs) of historic and present states. It is a very detailed report carefully compiled from information captured by whānau participants during special wānanga held for this purpose. We don’t share sensitive data, the tangata whenua section of this report simply outlines the current relationship we have with our tipuna or Tūpuna awa, how connected we feel, and how well we feel our awa are doing. These summaries are based on discussions held at a wānanga which include how often we are engaging with our awa, are we able to continue cultural practices such as mahinga kai and spiritual cleansing and are our significant sites protected.
We will be holding a wānanga to help inform these reports on Thursday July 17th 2025 9am – 3pm at the Urenui domain hall and we would like to encourage you all to attend. Please contact the office to register your interest office@ngatimutunga.iwi.nz or 067523247.
Further to these discussions, our Taiao team gather all data that we can find from within the catchment such as TRC consents, land use & commercial activities, native forest cover, riparian management, Edna testing, aquatic & vegetation surveys and anything else of interest to inform our report and provide good clarity about what is happening in our catchments and how healthy they are.
