Other Training and Employment Subsidy Grants

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Mutunga is pleased to announce that applications are now open for our Other Training and Employment Funding Subsidy Grants.

These grant subsidies are available to support whānau with a range of additional costs associated with their education,  training for employment or prerequisites for starting employment.

  • Examples for Education could include books, textbooks, stationery, uniforms, sports fees, technology, equipment, regional or national sport event fees, etc.
  • Examples for Training for Employment could include compulsory medicals, first aid courses, or other requirements necessary to start employment.
  • Examples for prerequisites for Starting Employment could include the purchase of equipment, PPE, tools, etc.

To apply for our grants, applicants must be able to whakapapa to Ngāti Mutunga and be registered with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Mutunga, either in their own name or recorded under their parent(s). While full registration and validation are not required, members aged 18 years and over are encouraged to register in their own name.

Grants Available

Grants are available to assist with these areas, with maximum amounts of:

  • Education: up to $3,000.00
  • Training for Employment: up to $1,000.00
  • Pre-requisites for Starting Employment: up to $1,000.00

*Please note, funding allocations are determined by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Mutunga, and grants may be awarded in full or in part at their discretion.

Application Process

  • Complete the grant application form, including all required documents such as Statement of Intent and Supporting Documents.
  • The panel will review all applications and make funding decisions. Their decision is final and binding. Funding may be awarded in full or in part at the panel’s discretion.
  • All applicants will be notified of the panel’s decision within four (4) weeks.
  • For successful applicants, grant payments will be made directly to the bank account nominated in the application.

Grant Conditions

  • Applicants are unable to receive this grant as well as another TRoNM Education grant within a financial year.
  • A successful applicant in Round 1 is unable to apply for Round 2.
  • Priority is given to first-time applicants each year.
  • Funding is available to both full-time and part-time students.
  • Part-time students will receive funding on a pro-rata basis.
  • Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to re-apply in subsequent rounds.
  • Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.

Required Documentation

  • Bank Verification – confirmation of bank account number.
  • Ngāti Mutunga Registration – evidence of whakapapa to Ngāti Mutunga and registration with TRoNM, either under your own name or recorded under your parent(s). This is the confirmation email you would have received from the Registration Officer when your or your parent’s registration was validated.
  • Statement of Intent – a statement explaining why you are applying for this grant. Include relevant information such as your school, workplace, event, or team you are involved with, and how the funding will support your education, training, or participation.
  • Supporting Documents – evidence that helps verify the costs or expenses you are requesting funding for. This could include quotes, invoices, sports fee statements, receipts, or other relevant documentation.

Please ensure you read and complete all application requirements before submitting your application. Applications that are not fully completed may be considered incomplete.

Completed applications must be submitted to destiny@ngatimutunga.iwi.nz by 5.00pm, Friday 17 March.
