Our kororā volunteers have been working tirelessly throughout the year conducting weekly nest checks across our Wai-iti and Urenui kororā kāinga. These nest checks help us to monitor the successful fledging of kororā chicks through microchipping and recapture and also the ongoing health of the kāinga through health checks and population monitoring. As a thank you from our taiao team, we hosted a volunteer BBQ at Urenui Domain where we presented the data they have been collecting and how important their mahi is to our monitoring program. The data we have so far will be presented in our annual report along with ways you can be involved in this exciting and successful project. The data and story’s collected through this project help to feed our new marine mauri compass; a tool that measures cultural & environmental engagement.
